As a key member of Southern Management Corporation’s (SMC) executive management team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will report to the CEO and will be responsible for the overall financial management of the company. The CFO will have responsibility for planning, implementing and managing financial strategies in support of all enterprise and company activities to maximize stakeholder value. The Accounting, Asset Management, Investor Relations and Information Technology teams will report to the CFO.


  • Work with CEO to define the financial strategy for SMC and its portfolio of assets
  • Assist the CEO with significant financial transactions/deals in the negotiation and review of transaction documents including but not limited to loan documents, operating agreements and purchase/sale agreements
  • Oversee Asset Management in the development and implementation of strategy for all properties to include valuation, return analysis, tax implications and cash flow projections
  • Develop, implement and manage SMC’s treasury operations to mitigate its operational, financial and reputational risk
  • Retain independent CPA firm and oversee and coordinate with the CPA firm in the preparation of timely and accurate partnership and corporate financial statements and tax returns
  • Oversee the management of accounting function to ensure timely and accurate completion of all financial information
  • Ensure that appropriate financial reports (e.g., budgets, financial forecasts, etc.) are produced, and facilitate the timely review and analysis of SMC’s financial results
  • Implement and ensure a robust system of internal controls is in place and in compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules
  • Work with other SMC leaders to identify and implement operational and managerial changes necessary to improve financial performance and maximize the value of portfolio properties
  • Enhance finance operations, including management of ongoing debt requirements and covenants
  • Ensure compliance and timely reporting of financial and reporting covenants to lenders
  • Foster, cultivate and maintain relationships with lenders, brokers and investors
  • Establish, staff and oversee an investor relations function that facilitates timely and appropriate financial reports and communications with Southern Management's investors, produces consistent and relevant information to investors, and ensures that investors’ questions/concerns are appropriately addressed
  • Management of the Information Technology Department, including recommendations for best in class technology to minimize risk and maximize efficiency

Education & Experience Required
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting and/or finance
  • CPA designation highly desirable
  • 12+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles in commercial real estate; property management preferred
