The Urban Land Institute Americas is adding capacity to its Member Networks team and seeks two experienced, dynamic Vice Presidents to lead, manage and support District Councils in the US.

The Position

ULI Americas is growing the organization s capacity of its Member Networks team by adding two Vice President - District Councils positions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, District Councils, each VP is responsible for managing, leading, and delivering work for a subset of District Councils within the Americas region. The Vice President - District Councils oversees network resources, initiatives and opportunities for their District Councils, and fosters the sharing of best practices across the network. An experienced leader, the VP - District Councils will work closely with the Americas District Council team on the implementation of ULI s strategic vision for District Councils, providing guidance and support to advance and sustain their District Councils. Key Responsibilities The Vice President s primary responsibilities are to:
  • Lead a defined number of District Councils with a focus on implementing ULI strategy, delivering programmatic content and ensuring operations are running smoothly.
  • Provide strong business analytical assessment of District Council performance to maximize results, ensuring the financial health of each District Council.
  • Oversee operational performance within each District Council, and be accountable for staff performance against key targets such as membership growth and retention metrics.
  • Provide clear direction and leadership to the District Council teams and Member Network management team.
  • Help create connections across District Council programs and processes, finding opportunities to foster sharing of best practices.
  • Lead and promote collaboration across all ULI departments and integrate work programs in conjunction with other members of the Americas Region leadership team.
  • Facilitate and connect the delivery of ULI content and program activity across the team and District Councils, in coordination with the District Council leadership team.
  • Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain outstanding Member Network staff while building a culture of trust and accountability.
  • Manage employee performance and oversee staff development, drawing from best practices in ULI HR policies and principles.
Experience and Attributes We are looking for talented professionals who bring executive leadership and management experience, who can quickly learn about ULI, and who will build connections and foster the environment to collaborate on policy, program, and execution across the organization. Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment and passion for responsible land use and will bring the following experiences and attributes:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working at the executive management level in a complex business environment.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit membership/chapter-based business setting and/or experience in for-profit real estate environment with responsibility for bottom-line financial results.
  • Experience in overseeing, preparing and monitoring an annual budget and financial statements; strong business acumen, experience tracking and forecasting results, and fiscally responsible.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate complex situations thoughtfully and logically, and utilize creativity and resourcefulness in developing pragmatic solutions to problems.
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver programs across a wide range of priorities.
  • Proven ability to build strong relations inside organizations and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a complex matrix, client-focused and team-oriented culture.
  • Influencing skills, with an ability to encourage others to collaborate effectively while motivating and managing the abilities of the team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Proven ability to present to large and small groups.
  • Experience in meeting facilitation and change management is desirable.
  • Ability to travel to District Councils about 35% of the time.
  • BA required, advanced degree preferred.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
