Position Overview
Job Description: We’re hiring a Real Estate Accountant to join our team in Palo Alto, California! Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Real Estate Accountant will focus on analyzing property financials submitted by our subsidiary team and work closely with the Corporate Senior Accountant to facilitate the close process of our MMC corporate entity. This position addresses a multitude of accounting activities including account reconciliation, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and also supports budget and forecast activities. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage monthly roll up of property financials for financial consolidation by MMC corporate entity. Prepare property variance analysis on income statement, balance sheet, actual/budget variances to facilitate monthly close.
- Work closely with our multi-family subsidiary’s property accounting group and business process owners
- Perform detailed analytical review of property-related financials for corporate reporting purposes
- Prepare monthly properties receivable report and research/reconcile property receivable balances
- Prepare/review the recording of transactions into the general ledger including sales, acquisitions, refinancing
- Prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and other schedules
- Support various collaborative projects, including assisting in the development of company business plans and forecasts, and preparing finance status, equity by project and metrics reports
- When possible, document procedures and streamline processes
- Identify internal control weaknesses and provide recommendations
- Prepare schedules for the annual audit and provide audit support as needed
- Other projects as the need arise
Knowledge & Skills
- Financial statements variance analysis and ad hoc reporting to support management decision making
- The ideal candidate must be analytical, detail- oriented and a team player
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, array formulas, macros, etc.) required
- Demonstrated technical accounting knowledge
- Budgeting and forecasting experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Positive, eager to learn and take on challenges
- Able to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- ERP knowledge preferred (SAP and Yardi)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high growth environment
- Enthusiastic and pro-active with a can-do attitude
Qualifications & Education
- BS degree in Accounting or similar field
- 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience in financial reporting/general ledger area
- Real estate (multi-family) and/or property accounting experience required
- CPA is a plus
