HIMCO is seeking a Vice President, Commercial Real Estate Investments – Acquisitions (Vice President) to join its successful RE team.  In this production role, the Vice President will originate commercial mortgage loans as well as source joint venture equity acquisitions. They will be expected to bring established relationships on the debt and/or equity side of the business and will be responsible for sourcing, underwriting, structuring, negotiating and closing both debt and joint venture equity commercial RE transactions.   The Vice President will join a successful team in support of a Commercial Real Estate platform that currently manages $9.0 billion in commercial mortgages and $550 million of levered joint venture real estate investments (approximately $1 billion in gross asset value). This role is based on site in Hartford, CT.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Source and qualify loans and joint venture opportunities prior to underwriting and investment
  • Underwrite,  structure, negotiate and close both debt and joint venture equity RE transactions
  • Foster, develop and maintain strong working relationships with developers, owners, managers and other direct borrowers  as well as with Joint Venture partners and other industry contacts as well as with internal functions within HIMCO
  • Work with executive leadership and the RE portfolio management team to develop goals and execute on those goals within HIMCO’s risk appetite
  • Stay abreast of market trends, research and analyses; proactively communicate both within HIMCO’s RE team and internally with the investment committee

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of real estate investment experience in Commercial Mortgage Origination and/or Joint Venture Equity. Relevant experience from an investment management firm, insurance investment manager or REIT would be considered
  • Required experience includes hands on experience sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing RE investment transactions
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills; able to quickly build rapport and build and develop effective working relationships inside and outside of the firm
  • Entrepreneurial approach; solution-oriented and resourceful
  • Team player; also displays excellent judgment and decision making and can work independently
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment – self motivated
  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Bachelor’s degree required; M.B.A. and/or C.F.A. preferred
  • MS office proficiency with strong Excel and Argus skills
