Your Opportunity

This position will work with the SVP, Corporate Real Estate (CRE), and will interface directly with internal and external clients and partners. The Director, Critical Systems, is responsible for providing the business insight and technical mentorship for all aspects of electrical, mechanical and plumbing maintenance, the contracting of service to critical equipment, the master planning for capital equipment replacement, and any data center construction. Additionally, this position will provide technical mentorship to ensure consistency in the management of existing data center facilities and critical environments, including their maintenance, physical security, and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures.

What you are good at

Provide technical mentorship for:

  • Development and implementation of consistent data center facility policies, procedures and organizational structure within the boundaries established by CRE senior management team and corporate policy while ensuring no contradiction in federal, state and local operating regulations or laws
  • Utilization of maintenance governance, standards utilizing in-house staffing and vendor support to provide 100% up-time of all mechanical life safety, monitoring and control systems.
  • Collaboration with senior IT leadership on tactical planning and business alignment to ensure the long term data center real estate requirements continue to support the company’s strategic needs.
  • Development of emergency response planning and response management for all mechanical, associated controls and plumbing systems
  • Creation of short-term and long-range data center and critical environment business plans consistent with overall profit and growth objectives of the company that establishes operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and an environmentally friendly community partner
  • Ensuring the pro-active delivery of corporate services support, power services, planning, budgeting, capital projects, maintenance, and business continuity/disaster recovery
  • Comparative evaluations between mechanical and controls systems performance and key performance indicators to supervise the efficiency of operational programs through benchmarking and the utilization of standard methodologies
  • Development of long term plans to achieve financially responsible, sustainability objectives consistent with standard methodologies, while maintaining critical reliability.
  • Ensuring facilities’ mechanical, controls, monitoring, and fire-life safety systems are aligned with all governmental regulatory operating guidelines
  • May require 24x7x365 on call responsibilities

What you have

Basic qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the leadership and management of sophisticated, large scale critical environments, including a minimum of 8 years specific to data centers

Preferred qualifications

  • Shown experience with the planning and construction of critical environment / data center facilities
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, Military schooling or equivalent
  • CMP (Certified Management Professional), BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association), IFMA (International Facility Management Association) or equivalent certifications
  • Two or more additional certifications such as, DCIM, and IT hardware systems
  • Membership in data center-focused organizations, such as Uptime Institute, 7x24 Exchange, AFCOM, ASHRAE, IEEE, BICSI, the Green Grid, Infrastructure Masons, etc.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Exceptional customer service
  • Shown leadership skills to build and handle large and dynamic data center teams, which include third party contractors
  • Technical knowledge of, and experience with, all aspects of data center and critical environment master planning, operations, electrical, mechanical and plumbing maintenance, and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures
  • Demonstrated ability and experience collaborating and effectively communicating with senior management executives on a strategic level across multiple organizations.
  • Ability to analyze the operation of various data center systems, resolve cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required
  • Shown experience developing and supervising the implementation of an operating budget
  • Demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decisions using sound and appropriate judgment.
  • Ability to acquire and apply job-related knowledge within set guidelines and expectations.
