Tenure-Track Faculty

Master of Real Estate Development Program

Department of City Planning & Real Estate Development

College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities

Clemson University

Position Description

Clemson University’s City Planning and Real Estate Development department is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to begin an appointment in August 2020. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level though those at the Associate Professor level will be considered. Teaching will primarily be in the department’s Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program but will also involve teaching a housing course in the Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) program. Teaching responsibilities are commensurate with those of a research-oriented program. The Clemson Master of Real Estate Development program educates students to become professional leaders and innovators in the development of sustainable communities. The program closely follows the principles of the Urban Land Institute, which believes that development is a public-private partnership and that quality development requires integrating the perspectives of community, environment and economics.

Clemson’s MRED program uses an array of teaching formats including lectures, seminars, workshops and field work, computers, videos, case studies, tours and extensive class participation. Entering classes are typically kept to fewer than 30 students to maintain the personal scale of the program. Founded in 2004, MRED is an applied, full-time, 56-credit program that can be completed in either 18-months for Entry Level Early Career Students, or 12-months for experienced development professionals. Students come from the design/construction, business/finance, and social science/humanities backgrounds. Our 200 (plus) alumni are employed with premier real estate firms, agencies, and non-profits in 44 metro areas in 25 states and Asia. See program description at: www.clemson.edu/mred. The program has deep links to the national and local leadership of ULI, ICSC, SIOR, CCIM, and other professional associations. The MRED program is located in Greenville ONE, a new, mixed-use development on Main Street. In addition to MRED, ONE houses all of Clemson’s graduate business programs and business outreach centers. Downtown Greenville is about 30 minutes from Clemson’s main campus. The award-winning City of Greenville offers one of the nation’s best and most innovative mid-size urban environments and is located mid-way between Ashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte, in the 1.4 million-person Greenville-Spartanburg metro area.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree in planning, urban economics, real estate, finance with a real estate concentration, land development, or a related concentration is required. Candidates with proven teaching/research experience are encouraged to apply. Professional experience in real estate development, and/or experience within the housing sector is a major plus. The candidate should be qualified to teach core and elective courses in the professional degree programs in the Master of Real Estate Development curriculum. The Candidate will also contribute to the service requirements of the college, university and community. Female and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply for this position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
